A much-loved Brisbane icon, the Red Hill Skate Arena was destroyed by arson in 2002. JDA Co. was enlisted to save and revitalise this wonderful building as the architect for the boutique cinema, which opened in 2019.
Spatial Ops laser scanned the existing, derelict skate rink building in 2018 to capture the entire building in its fire-damaged state. We could efficiently draw up the base plans and design the new cinema using the scan data.
Working from the 3D laser scan in CAD software alleviated the need for additional site visits throughout the design and construction process. The success of the Red Hill Cinemas today is due to the vision of its owner in saving the remains of the building, and the smart application of scanning technology that allowed the building to be reimagined.
