Princess Theatre

Heritage / Adaptive Reuse

Breathing new life into historic landmark

JDA Co., together with Spatial Ops, led the conservation and redesign of the Princess Theatre. Built in 1888, the heritage listed building required a full roof replacement, acoustic attenuation, new reconfigured mezzanine and hospitality fitouts. Using laser scanning technology, the architects were able to redesign the interior fit-out, create four new bars, a reimagined mezzanine, new gallery and additional amenities in nine months.

An invaluable tool for heritage restoration

Spatial Ops conducted extensive 3D laser scans of the theatre necessary for JDA Co.’s concept design, design development and construction documentation.

The precision of the scans assisted the architect to preserve the building’s fabric to the millimetre and make the best use of its features to bring it in to the 21st century.
